Study permit extension
How long does the study permit last?
It is granted for a maximum of 1 year, although it depends on the type of studies being carried out, and it may be granted for 6 months, for example. In the case that the studies last more than one year, that initial authorization must be extended, and that is what is known as extension of stay for studies.
Study permit extension
The extension of stay for studies is the procedure that must be carried out to continue studying in Spain each time your study permit ends. It is very important to take this into account because the study permit is for 1 year
and it is common for many students to wish to study in Spain for a longer period of time, such as an University degree, non-work placements or research. If this extension is not requested within the established deadlines, the student remains in an irregular situation in Spain.
This extension must be requested during the sixty days prior to the expiration date of its validity, as well as within ninety calendar days after the date on which the validity of the previous authorization had ended.
The extension of your stay for studies will also apply to the duration of the family members who will start the study permit with you.
